I have enjoyed massaging since I was in elementary school. My teachers loved me! Not only because I was a good student, but they enjoyed shoulder massages at recess time. I love Gray's Anatomy coloring book, it's such an easy way to learn about the body. Massage is something that not only feels good, but brings such great results, so I find satisfaction in my work. I'm always happy when I can ease the pain that one of my clients has been experiencing for years. I specialize in deep tissue and therapeutic massage and am up for a challenge! I utilize my education and practice as a dental hygienist and massage therapist to focus on TMJD massage treatments.
Anatomy and Physiology are subject areas that I love and I love teaching to others, as well as hands-on massage techniques, of course. I am thorough in my instruction and give a lot of helpful advice on memorizing and learning the muscles and landmarks of the body. I teach from a whole-body approach and show how our bodies are meant to be in balance and how one system can affect another one adversely. My focus is a clinical style massage approach and I educate students on a variety of techniques that bring results for clients.
My mom considered becoming a massage therapist when I was young. She was a single mom to 3 children. She couldn't figure out how to juggle a full time course schedule, work, and caring for us so she put her dream on the back burner and never received formal training. She would have been amazing as she had a natural gift for massage.
Because of this experience, I decided to offer an option for single parents, or those who needed to work full time jobs, but had a passion for massage therapy. Thus the dream of an evening program and also a part-time program was born! We will do our best to accommodate our students so that they can do it all! We have flexible clinic hours, and are able to extend those hours out over additional time after completing all of the required course work. We also set up externships for students to open up weekend clinic hours and possibly lead to permanent placement upon licensure! Some of our out of town students also benefit from local externships to reduce commute times.
Licensed Massage Therapist since 2003--Chattanooga Massage Institute, Hixson, TN
Registered Dental Hygienist since 2007--Chattanooga State Community College, Chattanooga, TN
I currently still own and operate Lincoln Therapeutic Massage Clinic. Students appreciate watching me run a successful massage business and gain knowledge from watching the day-to-day operations. We encourage our students to dream big with their massage careers and educate them on the benefits of being an employee, employer, or a sole-practitioner.
Even with nearly 20 years of licensed experience, I still consider myself a learner of the human body. The body is so fascinating and working with individuals who have a variety of issues has taught me that we need to never stop learning. I take continuing education classes that are geared for working with specific conditions, not just courses to meet the hours required by the state. Students are encouraged to continue learning after graduation.
Our staff are invaluable to the success of our students education and our clients experience. Our students are trained in massage modalities and practice on each other, friends and family before they test out on our instructors. Upon successful test scores, they then begin practicing on the public and are available to book on our online scheduling system.
